Happy New Year Everyone!

I have created this web page as a resource for my ThomasNet clients so you may keep abreast of ThomasNet news items but most importantly to give you tips on how to get the most from your ThomasNet program as well as your overall internet marketing strategy. It has been a huge year. The 2006 numbers are in and we have more than doubled our internet activity over 2005! We expect 2007 to be a very successful year as well.

February 1st is the next quarterly upload for any changes that were made before the December 15th deadline. Over the next few weeks I will send you reminders and tips so you can take advantage of all of the tools available to you.

Product Descriptions

Now that you know where to update your listings you can easily update your company profile and product descriptions. Product descriptive material (PDM's) are important to the industrial buyer searching for a supplier. The buyer scans the descriptions to narrow in on who to contact. You can improve your chances of being selected with good detailed text. PDM must be descriptive text only to make it quick and easy for the visitor to scan essential information. No advertising language is allowed in the listing.

Be sure that your listing has the name of the product category in it. You can see below that the product category keywords are put in bold in your description. Create a unique description specific to each category. Including the category heading name in your description not only attracts attention with bold type but the visitor is reassured that you have the capability he is looking for and more likely to contact you.

Have your ISO certifications and any other critical keywords that would differentiate your company mentioned early in the description. Company profile changes go live immediately however product descriptions will go through the editorial dept. first and may take a week or two to go live.

Include the product category name in each description. It will show up in bold type.

< < < The link at your product listing should go directly to your product information page rather than to the home page. You can see here that the listing at Aluminum Extrusions goes directly to the Extrusions product page on the website and not to the home page.

The fewer clicks a buyer needs to make to get to the information they need the more likely it is that they will select you to contact.

Web Traxs Reports

Web Traxs is an internet activity report that will report ALL of the activity on your website not just the ThomasNet activity.

This is important marketing information for any company with a website. It is very easy to implement and ThomasNet will do the implementation for you. All we need is your FTP information.

Web Traxs is free with any program that has a "content based link package" otherwise there is a $30 monthly charge. If you do not use Web Traxs then you can choose Google Analytics (which is free) or Websidestory.com or any similar tracking tool so you can monitor what programs are working for you.

If you are not sure if you are eligible for a free Web Traxs tool or if would like me to get your tracking tool set up just send me an email at mary@trconn.com.

Your web trax report will tell you:
  • Amount of visitors to your site.
  • What a specific visitor from a site did on your site, number of pages viewed, and which pages.
  • Where your visitors came from (search engine, another site, etc.).
  • What type of computer and browser they are using.
  • What search engine they used to find your site.
  • What keywords they used to find your site.
  • Common entrance and exit points of your site.
  • Recap of keywords, in total or by source

I hope this information is helpful. These tips are easy to do and can make a significant impact on your activity. If you need more information from me just give me a call or email me. Also, if you have any suggestions for me to help serve you better, I would appreciate the feedback!
